Dates for owner submitted L series serial numbers through #8273 have been verified. Also looks like Gibson may be emailing us a data file for all of the Nashville instruments. More news in the next few days.

Some very good news to report. After nearly two years of investigative work. . .the serial numbers have arrived!

Gibson has shared four 3-ring binders which list nearly every guitar and bass made up until the Newburgh move. We're missing the book for the first 4,400 bolt-ons, and we also don't have the numbers for the Nashville years. We're tracking those down as well but will obviously have our hands full in the meantime.

Our goal is to compile this list into a searchable database for the website. Entering all 17,000 instruments in our possession will take time, so we'll appreciate everyone's patience with this. Unfortuately we won't be able to make individual requests as our time will be better spent getting all of them online for everyone to have access to. We'll post updates regularly and let you know when those happen.

As a thank you for everyone who's submitted theirs to our list, we'll be going back and verifying all dates for the numbers we have. We'll then start from the beginning. . .

August 1st, time for the latest from MusicYo:

GRAPHITE GUITARS - Still waiting for bodies. They'll be using both Gibson and Terada concurrently. Unsure whose will arrive first. The are all out of NOS bodies; everything from this point is brand new. They placed orders for several hundred from each supplier so they hope to have ample stock once they come in. Timeframe unknown. I'm also aware that they ordered a rather large lot of active guitar boards from HAZ Labs, so they are getting ready for heavy production.

NEWBURGH BOUND BODIES? - No confirmation yet, but they are seriously considering a Newburgh bound GM offering. It's possible they won't always be available, maybe more like a smaller occasional specialty run like the platinum GT's. Gibson would almost assuredly make these bodies.

HARDTAIL - They've tested the prototype fixed bridge and have made some minor changes. They will incorporate this feature into the existing line hopefully later this year. As stated before a piezo option with this bridge will come some time after introduction but that schedule is not set.

BASSES - Body drawings have been completed for the XQ basses. They'll be prototyping this month. No word on when they'll be ready for sale.

PARTS - As mentioned before the bass jaws are in. You'll recall UPS lost the previous shipment but this one arrived just fine. No new parts are slated to be added. Actually MusicYo has begun considering "outsourcing" the older parts. Don't worry - Ed Roman or someone like him will not be involved this time around. That was a different deal anyways - Ed bought what they preferred not to ship
down to Nashville and was never part of a concentrated effort to provide parts and/or services. And he didn't start escalating his prices until the plant closed. Before then (when there was some competition from the factory) prices were generally reasonable. But I digress. .

NEW IDEAS - Actively working with Ned on several new projects. They aren't prepared to discuss them, but hope to shed some light on them later in the year. Nothing will show up before early 2003.

SERIAL #'s - MusicYo has OK'd it and Gibson is sending me the entire list of ALL instruments. Former Newburgh staffer Debbie Orsland has personally been "guarding" this list the last 10 years, pretty much ever since they moved her down to Nashville. It's got the model, serial number, date and purchaser (usually the store). Not totally complete for colors and features but still one heck of a coup. Now the real work begins getting it into digital format and usable on the site.

And there you have it fow now. . .
